If I were to tell you that an ancient stone can smooth away fine lines, brighten your skin tone, and even boost your mood, would you believe me?
I hope so, because it can and it does, but let me explain…
I will never shy away from trying a new beauty regime, tool or gadget. Although I still can’t wrap my head around microneedling. Maybe sometime in the distant or near future you will hear my escapades of rolling my face with tiny needles, but I’ll be the first to admit I’m definitely more smitten around the idea of rolling a gemstone all over my face that’s been around for centuries, opposed to needling that has only gained popularity in the past five years. (Curious, as anyone actually tried microneedling? Let me know!)
Upon seeing this beautiful gemstone on a few beauty blogs, and most notably at PURA HQ when I was back home in Alberta this past summer, I knew I had to give it a go. It was calling my name!!!
I’m really quite obsessed with natural beauty, the skin, how to feed it, and how to naturally prevent the decline of collagen. It’s all in the same of experimentation, right guys?
Who wouldn’t want to roll a magical gemstone all over their face, and have not only the healing properties of the stone help their complexion, but relax their entire body and being? Don’t worry I’ll do all the research for you, and report back as to whether it’s worthy of a go or not.
Right off the bat, I can tell you this is. It’s worth every penny, and it’s not even that expensive.
Using the power of jade to draw out negative chi has been considered a long-guarded treasure by Chinese royalties, and apart from the more spiritual act of dispelling bad energy, jade rolling has many practical uses as a form of facial massage (which should be a whole other post, as giving yourself a facial massage, long or short, can be super beneficial for de-puffing and plumping your skin).
HOW DOES JADE ROLLING WORK?
In the realm of crystal healing, jade is associated with protecting against negative energy and balancing your chi (or qi), your body’s energetic life force. According to Chinese medicine, any number of physical and mental symptoms from anxiety to fatigue to actual pain can indicate that your qi is out of whack. Practices like acupuncture and jade rolling can help remedy this, as do general self-care practices like eating well, exercising, and getting enough sleep.
The beauty of jade also comes in the form of it being naturally cool, like really cool, no matter what temperature the room is, your stone will always be cool. You have to see it, or feel it, to believe it!
It’s not only giving your face and skin a relaxing and cooling facial massage, you’re actually assisting in lymphatic drainage, increases circulation (gives your skin a rosy glow), diminishes the appearance of fine lines, and helps products penetrate deeper as the cool stone rolls over your skin.
No needling, dermaplanning (I just can’t!), expensive gadgets, frequent facials and expensive products.
Just a beautiful ancient gemstone that you give your face a lovely massage with every evening, or in the morning if your schedule allows.
I’ll take ten!
HOW TO USE IT?
It’s wildy simple.
After you’ve put your serum or moisturizer on, simply start at your neck and roll upwards. When you get to your cheek bones you want to be rolling towards your lymph nodes in your neck, as if you’re pushing the toxic lymph fluid to the nodes, which will then be excreted by your miraculous lymph system, which does so much work day in and out. With your forehead you can also roll outwards, and back down to your neck, or roll upwards.
Your jade roller will most likely have a smaller roller on the end. Use this for your eye area! This is my favorite part of the whole process, as a lot of stagnant fluid (puffy eyes), can sit in the eye sockets. Roll it out baby!
Honestly there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. You will gain benefit from it no matter what.
Since doing it four to five times a night, I’ve noticed a huge difference in my skin tone. It’s brighter, my eyes are much less puffy in the morning, and it’s such a beautiful part of my nightly ritual, that I’ll never let go.
Have you tried a jade roller before? Let me know if you have any questions or comments below. I would love to hear your experience with it, and answer any burning questions that you might have.
Have the loveliest of starts to your week!
